The Portes du Soleil region is the ultimate winter playground; comprising two valleys - the Vallée d'Aulps and the Vallée d'Abondance along with the village of Les Gets. The impressive Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world, with 12 linking resorts on either side of the French-Swiss border. In the heart of the French and Swiss Alps, it is a resort of adventure and authenticity situated between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc.

Each of the 5 villages has its own delightful and unique character; the distinct contrast in styles makes the resort a desirable destination for many holidaymakers.

Les Gets and Morzine on the French side of the area are picturesque, market towns with wooden chalets and fairy lights, nestled between mountains and forests and the quaint Swiss village of Champéry still preserves its traditional charm.

Towns

Morzine

The largest town in the Portes du Soleil, Morzine, is equipped with great facilities and amenities perfect for family ski holidays. There are many hotels, plenty of ski shops, extensive restaurants and bars and a cinema. The town also boasts its own tennis courts for the warmer months, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a full-size ice rink.

Morzine is the ideal place for walking, socialising and relaxing and also offers the widest range of summer activities in the region.

Take a look at a few of our stunning properties within the idyllic town of Morzine:

Les Sophie (1 Bed + Cabin)

Located at the base of the Morzine - Avoriaz gondola, Les Prodains, Les Sophie apartments are positioned to take full advantage of the Portes du Soleil's 600km of pistes.

Les Gets

With its higher altitude, Les Gets has a slightly more ski-resort atmosphere, with thick snowfall throughout the ski season. Although smaller than its neighbouring town of Morzine it has an authentic charm with a centuries-old village at the heart of the resort of Les Gets. It also boasts an excellent programme of organised events each week of the holiday season.

Avoriaz

Snow-sure Avoriaz sits at the heart of the Portes du Soleil and is the home to one of the greatest and steepest pistes in the world: Le Pas de Chavanette or the ‘Swiss Wall’.

The apartment buildings, restaurants and numerous hotels are all clad in wood and sit perched above steep rock cliffs that overlook Morzine. This purpose-built resort is truly-ski-in/ski-out and has a magical air about it, particularly around Christmas; a city in the snow where sleighs replace cars. It prides itself on an Aquariaz water complex which greatly enhances its appeal throughout the seasons.

Châtel

Originally a thriving farming community, Châtel is now part of the 'centre' of the Portes du Soleil. This family-focused charming village has a good range of facilities including numerous bars and restaurants, two cinemas and a popular municipal swimming pool.

Properties available:

Le Flocon Blanc (1 Bed)

Champéry

Champéry is the best known of the Swiss villages in the Portes du Soleil. The village itself has preserved much of its traditional charm with breathtaking mountain views, wonderful restaurants and old wooden chalet-style buildings in the trees. Its chalets are spread over a large area, but local buses connect to the properties on the edge of town with the main cable car from Champéry.

The scenery and views around Champéry are some of the best in the area, beneath the dramatic ridge of the Dents du Midi.

The Best Areas for Every Skiing Ability

Beginners:

The Les Gets beginner area is a perfect place to start, it offers magic carpets and rope tows which makes learning to ski more enjoyable and easier to master. There are several green runs and a great progression on to a selection of blue slopes, all from the top of La Croix chairlift.

Intermediate Skiers:

The Morzine, Les Gets and Champery ski areas are ideal for intermediate skiers with some great blue & red slopes to develop technique and test new skills.

Advanced Skiers:

The best areas for experts are on the Chamossiere and Mont Chery in Les Gets, on the Grandes Combes and Chavanette in Avoriaz and on the Cornebois in Châtel, boasting red & black runs to keep you entertained for days.

Off-Piste Areas:

There are lots of fabulous places for off-piste skiing and most of them are easily accessed from Morzine, Les Gets & Avoriaz. Mont Chery in Les Gets has one of the most stunning views in the Portes Du Soleil.

The Chamossiere and Charniaz sectors are formed by the twin peaks of Chamossiere and Ranfoilly, with Chamossiere being an off-piste favourite for years as well as the breathtaking ski into Les Crosets and Champoussin.

Best Runs for Boarders

Avoriaz is the destination of choice. There are plenty of runs, an excellent snowpark and halfpipe to keep boarders entertained. Les Gets is an ideal place to learn to snowboard and the local runs suit nervous intermediates too.
